Whoa Baby!

Last week the work & noise started. First it was Wednesday with trucks working on the manholes. I guess a few neighbors reported that their sewer lines were backing up. By Wednesday evening the gas company was here measuring & marking the gas lines. Thursday the construction guys arrived bright & early. They dug up a big portion of the road and blocked our driveway. They were courteous and did ask us if we needed to get the van out before they blocked us in. The kids all got a thrill out of watching the work. The backhoe was a big hit! Friday the work continued on. We came home from swimming to find that instead of the work being finished up it was back at Square 1. They discovered another break in the sewage line & then something collapsed & broke the water main. Ah! No water or potty! No water for us also means no heat. Thankfully the weather was nice and our house didn't dip below 60 degrees. My Mom declared it "freezing" but we were comfortable. They didn't wrap things up until 10:45 Friday night. They worked in the pouring rain & cold (the temps had dipped by then) until the water was back, the line repaired & the dirt put back in place. Once the machines were turned off the silence was golden! It was wonderful having a peaceful weekend too.

Digging Up the Road

Down Under

Tons of Trucks
Not only were the construction workers there but the gas company, the police and other workers.

Backhoe
None of us realized just how BIG these are! WOW!

20 Feet Down

Dump Trucks
They kept coming & coming. Tons of dirt & debris!

Huh?
We had been wondering why this was parked beside our driveway.

Can You Imagine How Much This Must Have Weighed?

We're not sure what it was for but since they removed it later we are guessing it was to hold the sides of dirt in place.

Wrapped Up for the Day

Close
This is how close everything was to our driveway. Pretty much in it! In fact they were cutting the pipes in it Friday night. The sparks were going everywhere. I was relieved it was raining b/c I was a little nervous about the grass & our house catching fire.
