EXPERIMENT DAY! ~ APOLOGIA HUMAN ANATOMY

We started our Apologia Human Anatomy studies last week.  Today was our day for a couple of experiments.  Tonight we will do two more.  I love the flexibility of homeschooling.

The first step:  The boys each got an egg.  (Yes, they were in silly moods this afternoon.)

Bugs put his in an empty container.  The container represented the skull, the egg the brain.

Elvis put his in a sealed container.  However his had his egg AND was filled with water.
The container = the skull, the egg = the brain, the water = the fluid in our brain

Here they are ready to be sealed.

Bugs took his turn first.  He ran around the yard twice shaking his sealed container with the egg in it.  I instructed him to shake it as hard as he could while running.

Did you guess this would happen?  Yes, we did too.

Then it was Elvis' turn to run around the yard twice shaking his container as hard as possible.  Remember his has the water in addition to the egg.

He was disappointed that his didn't break.  It didn't even crack.  Lol.
We talked about how God designed our bodies so amazingly.  He thought of everything!

 Safe & Sound...........Scrambled

Our second lesson was learning how important our skeleton is and how our bodies would be without it.

We made ourselves out of Play-doh.

 This is mine.

Bugs with his little green guy.

Elvis with his little guy. He even has a baseball cap.
We then squished and squashed them to demonstrate what we would be like without our bones.  Being boys they pounded theirs.  I think they got the jest of the lesson.

We finished up by recording our findings in our notebooking journals.  Tonight we will make our edible cell and do an experiment with apples.  Science rocks!

ON THE HUNT FOR LETTER A

Today I set up a little treasure hunt for Princess.  She is in preschool and learning her letters and numbers among other things. I thought it would be fun.  And so did she.  =)

The boys helped me get the Aa's ready.  Yes, they are very silly.

All ready to start the search!

 Here's one on the stairs!

She's starting to get quite the collection.

Every time she found one she had to say it's name & it's sound.

 They were upstairs too!

 In the boy's room........

 .........and on the toy shelves.

She found all 23 cards!  And most of all she had a great time.  Yay!

Next it was time for a worksheet to reinforce our learning.

She got to use her new dot markers for the first time.

She said the letter and it's name as she worked.

 Ta-dah!

Another fun worksheet.  She traced the A's and then cut out pictures that started with the letter A.

 All done!

And then it was time for Play-doh with her big sister.

PRESCHOOL FOR PRINCESS

Today Princess had her first, full day of preschool of this school year.  She really enjoyed it.  I'm eager to see her learn & grow as the year continues.  It is fun to spend this special time with her.

She was very pleased with her little apple.
This was a craft her big sister made up for her.

Next we had our first "Book Adventure".  We read The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle.  Then we went outside to harvest our sunflower seeds from the sunflowers we grew this year.

This was only one of the pans we filled with sunflower seeds.

She made a craft with the seeds.  Her sister helped her with this after I gave her instructions.

 Almost finished!

 So proud of her flower!

This afternoon I taught history to Elvis & Bugs.  She wanted to join us.

She really enjoyed watching the videos about the Cherokee.

Her mosaic flower.

Here she is posing with the book we read and her flower creation.  Great job, Princess!
