Let's Travel to The Center of the Earth

Monday we had our last Travel Day of the school year. It was Alison's turn and she chose for us to travel to the center of the earth. She had set up several hands on experiments in Nancy's barn & inside the house too. The messier stuff was in the barn. The kids had a great time. Moms too! My kids learned a lot and enjoyed telling Daddy all they had learned at dinner that night. Afterward we had a potluck lunch & the kids played. We're already looking forward to when Travel Days start back up in the fall!

~ Instructions ~
Alison let's us know all there was to do and then we were off to the races!

Boo Begins
Group Shot
Boo Setting Up
She filled the pie pan with flour and then set up little houses making a small town.

Look Out Below!
See the golf ball falling? Boo first sprinkled salt on her town and then dropped a rock. The point was to see how much, if any, damage occurred. Lastly she dropped a golf ball. Flour flew everywhere! She thought that was great! Lol. Bugs did too. She learned how much damage a falling meteor can cause.

Volcano
This was Elvis' favorite experiment. He first added baking soda to the bottle inside the volcano. Now you can see he is adding dish soap to it.

Next it was his friend's turn to add the vinegar.

Eruption!
There is goes! Elvis threw his arms up in the air and kept yelling, "It's an explosion! It's an explosion!"

Volcano #2
Another friend wanted to try so Sweet Pea helped him out. Bugs was there to watch this time.

Can't Resist!
Smiles!
You can tell by their smiles it was a hit.

Working Together
Miner
In this station Elvis mined for chocolate chips with a toothpick.
Candy Caves
Alison had several print-outs of each experiment complete with directions.

Sweet Pea's Candy Cave
I think this was her favorite experiment.
Making Mountains
The graham crackers represented the earth's tectonic plates.

Seismograph
A roll of papers towels, a dowel rod & a pen are all you need to make a sample of a seismograph.
