Organizing Dilemma

I was looking at some blog entries this morning and one in particular caught my eye. It was posted by I'm An Organizing Junkie. She posted about another blogger who did an amazing job on her hugs craft closet. I have to say as one who loves to organize I was practically drooling when I saw the end result. All those organized bins! The clean shelves! The labels! The dresser! The paint job! And the genius idea of using a rotating spice rack! I love seeing how others organize. It gives me inspiration not only HOW to organize better but to do it period. I do have this lingering question that no one has been able to answer yet. It is this.......with children in the house & a hubby who does not do detail HOW IN THE WORLD do you KEEP your closets, etc. organized? Even my bins that are carefully labeled don't stay organized. They just throw things in there willy nilly. Yep, laziness. It drives me absolutely crazy. One of my biggest pet peeves is exactly this. Why? Why is it so hard to put things back where they belong? I've done the "a place for everything" but my family does not seem to finish with "and everything in it's place". I'm afraid I will never receive an answer to that question. But what about my first question? I would love to hear ideas you have. I feel like I've tried everything I can think of but it hasn't worked with my family. Do you have any ideas that have worked with yours? If you have please H-E-L-P M-E!

Fun Changes

I'm trying to change our schedule a bit now that Princess has been born & I'm on the mend. One thing is to add more structured activity to Bugsy's day. He enjoys cooking & projects so I asked Sweet Pea to do a project with him. We got down the book, "The Little Hands Art Book" and they chose a project together. They decided to make salt dough and then put Bugsy's handprint in it. They would need to bake it so it could be a keepsake.

Putting together the ingredients for the salt dough.

Camera shy? Not one bit! Lol.

Putting the ingredients in the bowl.

Recipes

While they worked in the kitchen Elvis worked on his math. He is very eager to finish up his last first grade math book!

Mixing the dough......

Placing his hand print in the dough

The dough was too gooey so Sweet Pea added more flour & they started over.

He did a good job at rolling out the dough.

After they made his hand print again they had fun making animals.

Snakes!

Being silly.

Sweet Pea concentrating on making a turtle for Bugs.

Homemade playdough is fun!

While the clay baked Bugsy joined Elvis.

Elvis read his Explode the Code lesson aloud to Bugs.

Smiles for Mommy!

After taking pictures for me while I nursed Princess, Boo Bear worked on her math. I was proud of how hard she studied her geometry. Even more so because I never did understand the subject! =)

New Things

Princess has been enjoying her toys. She is doing well sitting both in her swing & her bouncy seat for small periods of time. She looks darling in both. I love that she will nap in her bouncy seat. When she is awake she likes to watch the toys swing back & forth. Too cute!

Watching her toys........

Enjoying her swing while big brother watches.

Fun with Science

Dave was home last week to help out with the kids, our new baby & me. At the end of the week we thought it would be fun for him to do some projects with the kids. He had been teaching them their math & having them keep up with their basic studies. But this stuff was fun! The kids were so excited when they heard they were going to do some science with Daddy.

First they took the book "Mudpies to Magnets" and picked an experiment. This book is fun b/c it is geared towards younger children. The big kids love it as well.

Boo packs potting soil around their can helping to make their volcano.

The kids added some grass to make it look more like a mountain.

They added the ingredients & then the volcano erupted!

It settled down again. Look at that mudslide!

The kids took turns making the volcano erupt. Here it goes again!

This time it really oozed!

To follow up on the bird unit we had been studying earlier the kids made a birdhouse. It was easy as they used a recycled milk jug. After cutting a hole in the side for the birds they lined it with pine needles & grass. We'll let you know if we get any residents.

Another view. Should we hang out a "Vacancy" sign? I'm thinking of painting it with the kids to make it look a little more fun.

I was teasing Dave b/c he took all these pics of the projects but none of the kids faces. He said he thought about that afterward. Next time! Lol!
