Wee One

Tonight Tucker, Tinkerbelle's sister, had a kitten. Sweet Pea had been telling us she thought Tucker was pregnant, (Tucker is her cat), but Dave & I were in denial and refused to believe it. Plus, Tucker is a very skinny cat and didn't look like she was putting on any weight. That was a relief to Dave & I. But tonight when Tucker assumed a certain position I knew it was true. I had seen Tinkerbelle give birth to her first litter so I knew what was up. Sure enough about 30 minutes later the kitten was born. Sadly, after a few minute of grooming Tucker deserted her kitten. No matter how many times it mews or we take her to the baby Tucker won't touch it. We tried with Tinkerbelle too hoping that since she had been, and is presently, such a good mama she might adopt it. But she too after a few minutes of grooming left the little one on it's own.
I have spent the entire evening researching how to take care of a newborn kitten & then trying to apply what I read. Sweet Pea is helping me. She made the recipe for a substitute kitten milk and sterilized the droppers. She also wrapped the kitten in a towel. I tried to feed it & now it is cuddled up on my bed.

Feeding the little kitty.

It's so very tiny.

The little kitten ate some before it went back to sleep.

I tried to wash the kitten off but it is still a bit wet & sticky. I pray it will dry soon b/c it needs the warmth. Right now I have it wrapped in a towel & on top of a heating pad. I'm praying it makes it. Sweet Pea will be heartbroken if it doesn't. We will keep caring for it with all our might. Sweet Pea is going to get up at 2:30 a.m. for it's next feeding.
