MY NEW HERB GARDEN

I posted a photo of what was going to be my new herb garden not that long ago. I wanted to now post an update.  Here is a photo of the general outline before any ground was broken.

Here is Hubby digging up the soil.

Now the ground has been broken in the whole semi-circle.

Today I planted herbs & flowers in my new garden.  Boo & Elvis helped me with weeding.  Most of them are seeds so it's not much to look at yet.  But I'm praying they will all grow beautifully & it will end up being exactly what I have pictured in my head.

What A Find!

Look what we found/we given! Someone in our neighborhood put these on their curb with a giant cardboard sign that read, "FREE IRIS". We were driving home from TKD Tuesday when I spotted the sign down a passing street. I immediately went and opened up my trunk! I've really missed all my flowers and gardens I had to leave behind in MA. How thrilled I was to find/be given these! Boo & Elvis put them in these containers with water until we can plant them. I hope to plant them tomorrow night or the weekend at the latest. Hooray!

Spring Surprise

I was under the impression that these were annuals. So when the cold freeze hit last winter I concluded they were gone. Suddenly with this warm weather they are back again! What a beautiful, spring surprise! They make me smile every time I go into my backyard. Thank you, Lord!

Getting Dirty

We started our garden planting. Last weekend we bought some seeds & plants. I had a bunch of seeds from last year but for the life of me I cannot find them. I could have sworn I put them in the fridge but they have disappeared. We let the kids each have a small pot to plant some seeds. These are fun because they are usually beans or peas and they sprout quickly. I planted 3 small pots with flower seeds. They are kind of an experiment to see if they will grow in this different climate. Being new to Tennessee we haven't had a garden here and aren't sure what will grow well & how the hot summer will effect specific vegetable plants & flowers. We bought some starter tomato & pepper plants and Dave planted these. He also put some seeds in this week. He made an awesome raised bed. I was amazed when he told me it took FORTY-FIVE 40LB. BAGS of topsoil to fill one raised bed. Yow-zah! We hope it pays off in fresh veggies. Instead of the kids having their own garden spots like they did in Massachusetts we are going to let them have container gardens instead. The soil is not good for growing here and we have underground wires & cables so digging is very limited. Plus with water being much more expensive down here container gardens will save $. I'm looking forward to watching our garden grow & produce. The kids are even more eager than I am!

This Week At The Farm

We made our weekly trip to the farm for our CSA share. This week there were 2 kinds of lettuce, beets, potatoes, cucumbers, something I don't remember the name of, summer squash, zucchini & cabbage. We were allowed to pick our own green beans, basil, sage & flowers.

Me & My New Friend
This is the veggie I forgot the name of. I was told to cut it in bite-sized pieces and saute it in garlic & butter. I'm eager to try it.

The kids favorite part of the farm, after the chickens, is to pick flowers. With 4 children picking bouquets we have quite the decorated house!

Our Bounty

These will help the house look pretty for our showing tomorrow night.

My Flowers

Here are some pics I took on Saturday of flowers in my garden.
