Dollar Deals

I posted my Target finds & some other school shopping deals on FaceBook but thought I'd post it here too. Most of the things I picked up were from their dollar bins. Boy are they a treasure trove!

I got some flashcards for myself, a friend & this great reference book on the 50 states.

I got these at Hobby Lobby for 40% & 50% off. I plan to have the boys paint them for a fun art project. Elvis picked out the aliens & Bugsy selected the transportation set.

I love back-to-school shopping!

Bargains

I took the kids shopping at Target on Tuesday. I wanted to pick up some organizational items for the boys' room & other areas of the house. That's one of the tough parts about moving, trying to find places for everything in a new set up. I figured we'd see if anything was left in the candy aisle too. We had hit it the day after Christmas at 50% off and it was bound to be a deeper discount now.

Here is what we found:

Candy for 75% off!

It came to 60 cents a bag. And the candy canes were 25 cents a box. Hot dog!

More candy!

The boxes were only 39 cents. I plant to throw the candy in the freezer & use them for treats, baking & maybe even Valentine' Day.

Organization, here we come!

The wire storage cubbies were $4 off. We bought some of these at the old house and they were great for extra storage in the bedrooms, front porch & closets. The shoebox containers were marked back down to $1 and are perfect for all those little toys. The baskets were not on sale but still a good buy. We bought some last summer for some of the boys toys. I have been impressed on how well they have held up. No cracks or breaks! And believe me our storage containers are constantly getting broken as the kids are hard on them.

I forgot about these buckets we got at Michael's last week. They were marked down to 49 cents each. Ours got chewed up by Sedona & broken over the summer. The kids liked that they could choose their own color. Now we are ready for that sandbox come spring!

Sanity Break

We took a late run to Target last night. The battery on our phone is dying and I don't have a cell phone anymore since Dave took it to TN and I'm still waiting to get a new one (long story). Because of all the wild storms we have been experiencing my Internet has been down a lot too. It was frustrating in this day & age of technology to have no way to communicate to the outside world. And I'm finding it important to my sanity to be able to talk to others! So off we went to Target to find a phone. I figured while we were there we'd pick up a couple of new DVD's for the kids to watch while I clean for showings. There isn't much for them to do when we are getting the house ready b/c they can't take out more than a couple of toys, art stuff is out (too messy), they can't run around the house, they are limited to being in only 1 or 2 rooms, there is no one to watch them outside............you get the picture. It's tough on them b/c they become bored & I can't blame them. I NEVER buy brand new DVD's unless it's a great Black Friday deal so this made our purchases extra special. While we were at Target we ran into some friends of ours. They are also a family of 6 with 3 kids pretty much the same ages as ours. Sweet Pea is older and their youngest is an infant. We were thrilled to see them! They were having a rough time too and Julie (the mom) and I chatted for quite awhile. I think she gave me some of my sanity back with that talk. THANK YOU, JULIE!!!!!! Things have been rough with this non-stop cleaning & everyone missing Daddy and it was such a comfort to talk to another mom & friend face-to-face. We have a tentative playdate planned for Friday. My kids are already counting down the hours! Lol!

So.............now we have our new phone and hopefully will have a new cell phone too as well. We really needed this so we can talk to Dave/Daddy at night. We all look forward to it and since he doesn't have a computer down there it is our only form of immediate communication right now.

I must run now. My darling daughter chose to wait until we all wanted waffles to inform me that she threw out our eggs the other day b/c she thought they were bad. I wish she had told me one of the 2 times I was out in the store yesterday. At least we don't live too far from a grocery store. =)

Thrifty Thursday

We had A LOT going on today. I'll share the rest later but right now I wanted to share the great deals we got tonight & the "free meal".
As many of you know the girls attend cooking class at the Boys & Girls Club every week. Not only do they get to have fun cooking in class & get out of the house for 1.5 hours but they get to bring a sample home. What's not to love? =) Tonight they brought home this yummy pasta with sauce, cheese & pepperoni. Bugs was a big fan! After I picked the girls up from class we went up to Target to see if any of the craft bargains Amy mentioned were still available. To our delight they were! We had a blast running back & forth to the scanner to see what fabulous deals were awaiting us! The cashier's eyes got bigger & bigger as she scanned our selections. She was pretty impressed & asked us about several of the bargains. Lol! We are pretty certain that when she has a break she is going to be running back there to pick something up for her niece.

The girls made this yummy dish & garlic bread to go with it.

We bought 13 kits for a little under $30. If you average that out it comes to $2.31 each. Not bad, eh? I am thrilled!

Of course I never would have spent that much on these items but it's thrilling to me to see what a great deal I got. I love bargain hunting!

Plus I bought a set of sorely needed King size sheets for our bed - included fitted sheet, flat sheet & 2 pillowcases - for only $29.99. They are normally $59.99! A great trip indeed!

Saturday Shopping

We had a busy afternoon. I stopped in to find out about Butterfly Life with Boo while Dave & the other 3 kids went to Price Rite for a few items. Then we hustled over to the Friehofer's Bakery Outlet store before going to the Dollar Tree. After a quick stop at home we went up to Sears to return p.j.'s and then stopped at Target. We were in Target for awhile as we hunted for a couple of learning items for Bugs. I want to use these while the rest of us are doing school. I figure they will keep him occupied and learning at the same time. We also looked for a new bathing suit for Sweet Pea but had no luck. We picked up a few other odds & ends - lotion, Ibprofen, hairspray, decongestant. We were all tired as we headed home & spent what was left of the day relaxing.

I Love the Dollar Tree!

We picked these up for E-boy & Bugs. They are full of stickers & look like great fun. Bugs' is perfect for school time or fun time.

I tried to get Boo to pick a word search book too but there were only 2 to choose from & neither caught her fancy. She did however love this kitten coloring book.

What a Bargain!

We bought all of this for $6 + change! The cookies were free for spending $5 or more. What a nice surprise!

This is perfect b/c Bugs LOVES markers but Dave & I don't exaclty love the way he has used them to re-decorate our home. :(

E-boy had some when he was Bugs' age & they were a big hit. We may try the fingerpaints next. We've used them in the past & I have a feeling Bugs will really enjoy them. Right now I need something that is very easy to clean up. :)
