A BUGGY AFTERNOON

 This afternoon we had some fun with our Flying Creatures studies.  This is a science book from Apologia.  It's full of interesting facts and best of all focuses on our Creator.  Today we took a break from reading and dove into some hands-on activities.

 First we made hand print birds.

 Boo is a big help to me.  And yes, she is making that face on purpose.  Lol.

 First pink, then purple.

 Last was blue.  After they dry we will add googly eyes & beaks.

 Next were dragonflies.

 Pipe cleaners and beads for our creations.

 Ta dah!

 And lastly Princess wanted to make butterflies.  We haven't reached them in our book yet but that's okay.  Butterflies are always welcome.  =)

I made one too.  It was fun.  I think I'm going to hang them in the windows.  I am feeling the need for spring.

Sock Puppets

Bugs, Elvis & Boo spent a lot of time this week making sock puppets & writing a play. They plan to perform it for us today!

Our Jesse Tree

Thanks to a friend on a homeschool chat site we are doing a Jesse Tree this year. I had heard of them before but had never attempted one. The links she shared made it look fun & a great way to spend the weeks before Christmas focusing on the reason for the season - Jesus!

Our first ornament was the earth. Elvis was given the fun of making this.

The girls worked as a team with Daddy to decide how to sketch the tree, how high the tree would be and where it would be placed. The girls argued at first but finally worked together in peace.

Princess had to test out the materials & be in on the plan. Lol!

They each took a side of the tree & sketched. Afterward Daddy cut it out with a razor blade.

Almost all cut out & hanging for a trial run.

This photo was taken about a week later. The children took turns making ornaments for the different lessons. The rainbow (The Flood) was made my Bugsy & the ram (Abraham & Issac) was made by Sweet Pea.

We have fallen behind as "the plague" has hit our house. It's been 7 days with no end in sight. We plan to continue our tree once everyone is feeling better again. We may be working on it after Christmas but that's okay. We are enjoying it & learning a lot!

Thrifty Thursday

We had A LOT going on today. I'll share the rest later but right now I wanted to share the great deals we got tonight & the "free meal".
As many of you know the girls attend cooking class at the Boys & Girls Club every week. Not only do they get to have fun cooking in class & get out of the house for 1.5 hours but they get to bring a sample home. What's not to love? =) Tonight they brought home this yummy pasta with sauce, cheese & pepperoni. Bugs was a big fan! After I picked the girls up from class we went up to Target to see if any of the craft bargains Amy mentioned were still available. To our delight they were! We had a blast running back & forth to the scanner to see what fabulous deals were awaiting us! The cashier's eyes got bigger & bigger as she scanned our selections. She was pretty impressed & asked us about several of the bargains. Lol! We are pretty certain that when she has a break she is going to be running back there to pick something up for her niece.

The girls made this yummy dish & garlic bread to go with it.
