Overhaul

Sweet Pea's carpet in her room is nasty & smelly. I couldn't take it anymore. We tried washing it with our carpet cleaner. No improvement. Then we tried it with a Rug Doctor we rented. Very little improvement. It was fantastic BTW on all our other carpets but they are newer. This carpet was the original with the house & looks and smells all of it's 20 + years. I finally convinced Dave to tear it out.
Here is her floor after the carpet was ripped out.

And the other angle.

We bleached the floor & let it dry for 2 days. Tonight Dave & Sweet Pea worked on sanding it in the rough spots. Here is Sweet Pea working hard & trying to avoid the camera. =)

Dave waves his rump roast in the air. Lol!

Painting the floor.

Sweet Pea had hoped for a pink floor but it seems they had almost every color in floor paint except pink & purple. So she settled for a light gray. It will go nicely when her walls are eventually painted pink. We want to re-carpet her room but don't have the funds. And putting a wood floor (or laminate) in would cost even more. We thought paint was the second best choice to make the floor look nice. Lowe's was very helpful in showing Dave the right paint to buy. Eventually we will get new carpet in her room but for now the paint will add a polished look to the floor & room.

I'll be back soon with updates!

Closed for Renovations

After we moved in I found my allergies to be terrible. They were the worst when I was downstairs. At first I thought most of it was due to my cold & then all the moving boxes. The boxes DID effect my allergies, (I could breathe much better in the bedroom once the boxes were cleared out), but it was more than that downstairs. We had been told there was a leak underneath the hall bath. We had someone come in and crawl under the house, (no easy task!), and he found that water had been there but had dried out. Hmmm.......... A mystery. Upon further inspection he found that the bathroom floor was uneven in a couple of places. Not a huge thing but enough that he gave it a closer look and suspected that the bathroom had been flooded recently. Though everything was dry & I had treated the bathroom to several "bleach baths" the smell still wasn't going away. After talking further with the workman we decided we would rip up the linoleum and put some water resistant board underneath before finishing it off with tile. Well, I'm relieved we made this choice! When Dave ripped up the linoleum he found that it was still damp in the area around the toilet. No wonder my allergies were going crazy! He took out the toilet as we are going to replace it with a more durable one, (suggested by the workman after he saw we have 4 kids & 1 on the way - LOL), and will rip up the wood tonight. He had tried bleaching it but I'm afraid that in the long run the wood will still hold the smell. My allergies just can't take that. So we will add the extra project of ripping up and replacing the wood too.
Here are some pics of the progress thus far. I'll keep you updated as the project progresses.

Before

We think the vent also got wet. There is a cardboard filter inside which we believe was contributing to the smell.

Ripping up the linoleum.

See what I mean about moisture?
There is only a crawl space under the house too.

YUCK!
All the ripped out linoleum.

The toilet is removed.

A different view.

.Saturday, June 21st - Part 2

WHEW! I'm getting further & further behind the more the summer goes on. It doesn't help that I have been taking more pictures than usual and we have been running around more. LOL! Guess that's my own fault, eh? *wink, grin*

The same day we took our field trip to Pleasant Valley we went to McD's for lunch (a special treat) and then later went to G&G's for dinner. Grandpa, my Dad, also came over during the day and helped out at our house. Here are some pics of that day. I'm calling it "Saturday, June 21st, Part 2"

The kids chose McD's for their special treat.

Our Tomato Plants

Green Beans, Some Cucumbers & A Few Peppers
We don't have our usual large garden this year. There was no time to plant as we were concentrating on house projects. Plus as we weren't sure when the house would sell we didn't want to invest a ton of time & $ into a large garden. I do miss having it though. And the kids miss having their own gardens too.

Grandpa Mowing
I mowed the front yard & Grandpa took the back.

I didn't get any pics of them at G&G's as I was busy & it got dark quickly. We had a yummy dinner and I drove home late with the kids. It was a BIG day!

Weekend Away

Last weekend my parents went for an anniversary get-a-way. We stayed overnight to keep my brother, Tim company & to help out with all their various animals. The kids played lots of video games and even Dance Revolution. I love this one because they are getting some exercise while playing. Plus it's entertaining! LOL! Saturday we went over to our house to get some work done. Then it was off to pick up the world's best subs in a neighboring town before heading back to spend the night at G&G's with Tim again.
