Fill-In Friday

I'm a day late but I wanted to try this anyway. Crystal clued me in on a neat blog where they have "Fill-in Fridays". The writer writes a sentence but leaves a blank or 2 for you to fill in. Neat, huh? I decided to try it out. Pretend it's Friday with me okay? Here goes!

1. My stomach is happily filled with a homemade turkey, Swiss & bacon sandwich. My favorite after Thanksgiving treat!

2. Mashed potatoes & gravy is what I ate the most of on Thursday.

3. The yard was raked today by the-one-and-only Davey-Boy.

4. The beach on vacation is where I'd rather be at any given time.

5. The smell of turkey cooking reminds me of Nana's house on Christmas.

6. A handful of Double Stuff Oreos & a glass of milk are what I need right now!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to recovering from Black Friday (I'm sore!), tomorrow my plans include buying stocking stuffers at the Dollar Tree & Bugs a Christmas surprise at Big Lots and Sunday, I want to surprise the kids with the Kung Fu Panda DVD I bought on sale yesterday!

Fabulous Field Trip!

Friday we had an opportunity to visit a local dairy farm. A big "Thank you!" to Amy who arranged this field trip for our homeschool group.

This dairy farm is the last complete remaining dairy farm in our area. It has been in operation since before 1900 and has been in the same family for over 100 years. They still produce, bottle and deliver their own milk. They own at least 1300 acres and it is beautiful farmland & woods. We felt privileged that Walt took the time to share the workings of the dairy farm with us.

Bugs kept taking big gulps of milk, pausing to take the bottle away from his face & declaring, "Good chocolate milk!" He did this over and over again cracking me up.

Treasure Hunt!

We stopped into Michael's Friday for a few great deals. While we were there one of the ladies came up to us and told us about a treasure hunt they were going to host on Saturday. We were a little late getting there, (we called ahead and they said to come anyway), but still had a great time. The treasure hunt had just started but the few kids that were there made quick work of it. Out of our 4 children only one treasure block was found. I told the kids it was okay and that it was our fault because we were late getting there. The lady in charge was so kind. She noticed what happened and took several blocks and hid them again so our kids could search for them. She didn't have to do that. I thought it was very sweet. After the kids found them it was time to get their "treasures". They were allowed a certain number of treasures depending on how many blocks they found. Some of the other kids had to have a maximum number given because they had too many. There was one family there that was snatching up things as fast as they could grab them. Why is there always someone like that? Again the lady was very kind and helped our kids find some treasures they liked. Our kids had a blast. The lady was super nice and I was surprised at all the free things they were given. They were even allowed to keep the blocks! They are the stamp blocks and will be fun for crafts.

I picked up a bucket & shovel set for each of the children as they were only $1. I bought some note cards too. Fifty cents a pack! They cost several dollars in the department stores.

These are the deals I found yesterday at Michael's.

DMC Embroidery Floss = 4 for 99 cents

Clay flower pots = 3 for 99 cents

Scrapbooking Scissors (they cut specific designs) = 3 for 99 cents

Notepad with magnet on the back = 50 cents (I use these for grocery lists, etc.)

Travel Day!

I wanted to tell all of you about our Travel Day. We had such a great time. Boo has asked if we can have an all Amish day at home soon. I think we might try that very soon. It sounds like fun & I am happy she suggested it.
We had 4 families attend on Monday. With us that made 5 families! Our numbers came to 18 children & 5 moms. I was very happy. We had an age range of 1year to 16 years. Also very neat. I love to watch all the kids joining in no matter what their age. Due to swimming lessons that afternoon we ran out of time for the candle making. The books & articles I had read said it would only take 1/2 an hour but the kit said more like 2 hours. We decided we would schedule a candle day soon at Nancy's house.

We began our time by reading this book together. I absolutely love the illustrations.



Next it was hands-on time! The children had many choices and jumped in.

Sweet Pea hadn't had a chance to plant any seeds since she had been in the cooking group. We found a missed pack of radish seeds and a couple pumpkin seeds for her & Bugs to plant.

Daddy's Home

The children were eager to tell Daddy about their day and show him all they had done. He was impressed with the Shoo-Fly Pie and enjoyed it immensely. I think we will be making that again very soon. Thank you again to everyone that came and helped to make the morning such fun! Thank you also to all that prayed for us.
